UPDATE: Council sent the Study back to the Heritage Committee for refinement and tidying up. It will receive final consideration on December 21. The vote to refer the study was the same as below.
Heritage was front and centre on the agenda of Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting. Specifically the discussion revolved around the Main Street East area and a proposed Heritage Conservation District Study.
A delegation and presentation from SaveMainStreet presented their views and support for the study to the Members of Council.
During the Council disucssion, both sides of the question raised valid points on the merits of the study, possible drawbacks and other options. You can review the long but spirited discussion at the GCFRG Facebook archive or at the Town’s archive of the meeting.
So you may be asking… how they voted?
|YEAS - Approved of the MSE HCD Study As Proposed
|NAYS - Disapproved of the MSE HCD Study As Proposed
Note: Councillor Sharpe declared a Conflict of Interest as his parents live in the study area. He did not participate in this discussion or vote.
The motion to move forward with the Heritage Conservation District Study was carried by the Committee of the Whole. Along with other recommendations from Monday’s meeting it be forwarded to the November 2nd, 2020 Council meeting for final approval.
