…and a problem. Well we in fact have a few numbers, not just one… from the elusive web of Town hydro companies. On October 9, 2018 the Town’s 2017 financial statements were presented to the Admin & Finance Committee for their approval. Why is that interesting? Because it gave us a small window into what has been happening with the finances of the companies in the hydro group.

We have skipped the more tedious details of Monday’s Admin & Finance meeting and decided to cut to the chase and discuss the “lame duck” council concept that can potentially befall a municipality in an election year.
Spring is certainly upon us and with that is a new set of Town meetings for April. You can see the upcoming meetings in our sidebar or click the graphic to be taken to our calendar.
Please note that although April 2 (Easter Monday) is typically a government holiday, Council will be seated on that day as per it’s regular schedule.
Also of special note is the April 10th, 2018 Planning & Development meeting. For those who were unable to get into Town Hall and speak at the Century Condos “Open House” on March 27th, the Town has tentatively scheduled this date to give those people an opportunity to speak (we will post more details once they have been confirmed).
This weeks Planning & Development Committee will be another very important meeting as the agenda will feature the revised GO Train Station Secondary Plan. If you showed up for the first meeting in December, we encourage you to attend… if you didn’t make the first meeting in December, we definitely encourage you to attend!
The new year starts off with two committee meetings this week, Admin & Finance and Planning & Development. The content may not be meaty, but there are always a few good tidbits hiding in these meetings.
This past week Town Hall had quite a full schedule with several end-of-year meetings. If you were too busy buying gifts or are already celebrating the holiday season, we have the meetings notes for you.
We apologize for a long-ish post, but we have done our best to trim things down without disposing of the interesting information.
Admin & Finance Agenda – 3:30 pm, December 11
On Monday, the Admin & Finance Committee will discuss the 2016 audited financial statements and a number of reports.
The agenda is viewable at: https://grimsby.civicweb.net/filepro/documents?expanded=542,761,79389&preview=89326
It will be interesting to hear if anyone brings up the missing $9 million (after taxes etc., maybe closer to $6 million left) from the sale of the Town’s shares in Niagara Region Broadband (read our previous post here).
It is hard to believe December is already upon us, but a new month means a new schedule of meetings for Council and Town committees.
First up this month is Council on Monday (December 4th). While the agenda looks brief, we expect that the money-eating turbines called the CoGen will be front and centre with some hearty discussion as to it’s future (or a lack thereof).
