DEBATE: Grimsby Mayoral Candidates, Tonight (October 5) at 7 PM, Grimsby Legion

The stage is set for tonight’s live Mayoral Debate, your only opportunity to see the candidates vying for Grimsby’s top post go head-to-head on the issues facing our community and the questions that matter to voters.

Tonight’s Mayoral Debate happens as the Grimsby Legion, 233 Elizabeth Street (map link). Doors open at 6:30 PM, with the debate beginning at 7 PM. The event is free and open to the public, and organizers welcome anyone who would like to bring a food donation for GBF Community Services. You may also want to arrive early to get your preferred seat and submit a question for the audience question segment.

Tonight also kicks off the Grimsby Votes debate series, with Ward Councillor candidates making their case to voters later this week. Ward 3 candidates take the stage Wednesday, followed by candidates in Wards 1, 2 and 4 on Thursday. Those debates will similarly take place at the Legion, with doors opening at 6:30 PM and the debates beginning at 7 PM.

The debates will be moderated by Anthony Scandinavo, a public-sector finance executive and Grimsby resident.

Watch for reminders ahead of the upcoming Ward Councillor events.

Campaigning during municipal elections in Grimsby has traditionally been a very grassroots affair: candidates knocking on doors, delivering flyers and door hangers, sending mail-outs and competing for space on lawns and prime viewing locations with election signs.

However, a new form of political outreach has now entered the local mayoral race, one that is much less personal than a conversation at the door and instead reaches right into residents’ personal phones.
