After the Province made good on their promise to rollback all their Greenbelt changes, the developers at 502 Winston have “reactivated” their original Town and Regional Official Plan Amendment applications. The applications are attempting to “redesignate” the Greenbelt property from Specialty Crop/Tender Fruit to the lesser protected Rural designation. This would “pave the way” for an urban boundary expansion and potentially significant development on those lakefront lands.

While it came to our attention just recently, it is still worth noting that the Town is having a public meeting (via Zoom) for it’s ward boundary review. To ensure adequate representation in local governments, municipalities will regularly review their ward composition.
If you would like to have a say on how your area should be represented at Town Hall for the next election, tonight is your opportunity to have your say. Only a handful of people have registered for the meeting, so residents are encouraged to participate.

With the ongoing discussion of the Century Condos project, the letter writing campaign residents have taken up and the upcoming “open house” meeting on March 27th, we thought it might be an apt opportunity to explore a matter of a higher order… our Rights and Freedoms in Canada.
The Canadian Constitution, in particular the Charter of Rights of Freedoms ensures that those in Canada have certain protections and rights. For this exercise, we want to look at the “Fundamental Freedoms” as guaranteed by the Charter:
