As we have previously posted, there will be no land removed from the Greenbelt in Grimsby as a result of the 2017 amendments to The Greenbelt Plan. That however has not deterred the Town’s hope of some “concessions” concerning land around the planned GO station.

The idea of the Livingston Avenue Extension that threatened the sanctity of Grimsby’s Irish Woodlot is one step closer to being relegated to the history books.
This past Wednesday, the Region’s Transportation Steering Committee unanimously passed a motion to “Remove any reference to the proposed extension of Livingston Ave from the Region’s Transportation Multi-Modal Master Plan.”
Queen’s Park is looking to pass major changes to the Ontario Municipal Board and have them in place by 2018. The Ontario government says these changes will be “giving communities a stronger voice and ensuring people have access to faster, fairer and more affordable hearings”. Hearings would be conducted by a new Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT).
Among some of the proposed amendments are:
We often receive commentary and information from concerned residents who share our vision for a Greater Grimsby. The following is a very thought-provoking opinion piece we recently received from a resident and with permission decided to share with our fellow citizens.
One of our recent posts poked fun at a By-Law sign prohibiting “spying”. But the truth may be stranger than our funny-bone in this bomb-shell investigative article by Mike Williscraft.
After suggestions from many citizens who are not on FaceBook, we have decided to launch this site as another vehicle to facilitate and foster positive discussion on responsible growth here in Grimsby.
We are still tweaking the site and will be adding more features. Any and all suggestions are welcome in the comments!

Public Works Minutes Discussion
Mr. LeRoux presented a few details of the $8M ($5M with “other projects”) Winston Road reconstruction. Costs will be covered through Development Charges (92%), outside contributions ($1.3M) and $600K from the Town. Since DC’s won’t all be received at the time construction starts this June, short term borrowing will need to be put in place with interest payments charged back to DC’s. Potential of 5-8 years to recoup the costs in a “hot” market, and up to 20 years if things slow down (highly probable). Apparently Public Works does not expect too many “extras” and has set aside a small contingency ($100K) for possible overruns.
Not sure if the verbiage on this sign could get any longer…
But in all seriousness, why would By-Law be entitled to enforce most of which is in the Canadian Criminal Code and the exclusive domain of Niagara Regional Police? Cash grab?
Town Council will be meeting on Monday, May 15th @ 7PM
