As pointed out in our last post, there has been a big push from the Ontario Federation of Angler’s and Hunters (OFAH) to get its 100K+ membership to “voice those opinions at the next council meeting” of February 7th, alongside with an individual petition to keep hunting in Grimsby legal.

The January 17th 19th Committee of the Whole meeting was long, so long that it wound up pushing the Council meeting until a Friday. The topic-de-jour was the issue of waterfront hunting with an astounding 10 delegations on the issue. If you need a brief history on this topic, please see our previous post by clicking here.
If you haven’t heard the gunshots ringing off the lake, you might have heard about the issue from your neighbours or the local newspaper. The passage of Grimsby’s new Discharge of Firearms By-law back in November left a legal gap, one large enough to drive a boat of armed hunters through.

The Town is hosting a planning public meeting via Zoom for the proposed development at 19 Elm St. & 13 Mountain St. (AKA “The Woolverton”). If you haven’t already done so you can read more about the proposal at the Town’s “Let’s Talk” page: https://www.letstalkgrimsby.ca/19elm13mountain
The agenda for the meeting contains many pieces of correspondence as “testimonials” in favour of the project. There is also quite a list of participants who have registered to speak at the meeting. If you didn’t get a chance to register, you can still submit your comments by email to the Town Planning Department at: planning@grimsby.ca

The Town sent out an “email blast” today to inform people that the Open House event for the Grimsby Beach Study for November 4th has been cancelled, due to unforeseen circumstances.
When a new date for the open house has been determined, it will be posted here and on the GCFRG Facebook page.
As discussed in a previous post, the Town had scheduled both an Open House meeting and Public Meeting for the Grimsby Beach Study for November 4, 2021.
In response to public concern, the Town has now made the November 4th meeting an Open House only event. The Public Meeting will now be held at a future date, to be determined.
If you have requested a delegation and have comments or concerns over the study, please attend the Zoom “Open House” as scheduled, as it is still an important step in this process. If there is a livestream available, we will rebroadcast it so those who wish to spectate, may day so.

With little time to properly digest the wealth of documents dropped on Grimsby residents, especially those in Grimsby Beach, about that area’s Land Use Planning Study, many have been asking for more time to discuss the “draft” documents and their implications.
