While this past weekend provided our new Council an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of municipal governance in training sessions, there was an immediate item of business which was in open session on Sunday… the Hydro Boards.

While in attendance at the July 16, 2018 Council meeting, we noted one item on the agenda whose timing was a little puzzling. This item was a recommendation from the “Working Committee Board of Directors for Niagara Power” with a list of the Town’s various hydro boards and individuals who were recommended to serve on them. Given that the election was just a few months away, we began wondering why 2 and 3-year terms appeared on the agenda and started thinking about these Boards of Directors.
…and a problem. Well we in fact have a few numbers, not just one… from the elusive web of Town hydro companies. On October 9, 2018 the Town’s 2017 financial statements were presented to the Admin & Finance Committee for their approval. Why is that interesting? Because it gave us a small window into what has been happening with the finances of the companies in the hydro group.
With temperatures finally climbing, if you feel a need to beat the heat… Town Hall is always a great place to do so during the week. And this week will offer up quite a few opportunities to do so.
Chills circulated through Council chambers Monday night… good chills that is, thinking of preparations and fundraising for the upcoming Coldest Night of the Year challenge on February 24.
Although it’s the weekend… it’s cold out, so no better time than ever to dig into the agenda for Monday’s Council Meeting. A few interesting items, so without further ado, lets take a run through it.
It was a short Council meeting this past Monday, October 2nd, although one particular closed session item may warrant attention.

As the Biodigester seems to be the talk of the Town in as of late, recent articles in Niagara This Week and Niagara News Now are taking aim squarely at the risk-proposition this project has become.
Council is once again back in session on Monday June 5th, 2017 and what’s on the agenda (and what is not) could make for a very interesting meeting.
All Council meetings are held at Grimsby Town Hall, 160 Livingston Avenue. Proceedings commence at 7PM and all members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.
