In Case You Missed It: Ford’s “Bill 23” Proposes Radical Changes To Planning, Heritage And More

This post seemed fit under “In Case You Missed It” as the Ford government introduced Bill 23 aka “More Homes Built Faster Act” one day after Ontario’s municipal elections. The bill proposes about “50 actions” that slashes and burns everything from the Planning Act, the Ontario Heritage Act, and the Conservation Authorities Act just for starters.

Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022)

Photo Credit: Region of Peel Archives

As most readers are aware Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, passed away earlier today at the age of 96. The Queen was the longest-reigning and longest-living of all British monarchs.

While there are Official Portraits of the Queen, it thought it fitting to show a photo of the Queen and Prince Philip during their visit to Niagara Falls in the autumn of 1951. She was well-loved by not only those in the UK, but those in and out of the Commonwealth, including Niagara.

Our condolences go out to the Royal Family and all those here in Canada and around the world who admired her grace and charm. She is succeeded by her son, King Charles III. Vivat Rex.

2021 Sunshine List Released – 20 Town Employees Over $100K

Queen’s Park has published it’s annual Public Sector Salary Disclosure, better known as “The Sunshine List” for 2021. Last year saw 20 Town of Grimsby employees making over $100,000, up from 19 employees in 2020.

2021 Sunshine List employees at the Town earned a total of $2.54 million last year, including taxable benefits, compared to $2.37 million in 2020. Some of the 2021 earners include former Town employees who have previously been packaged out or were part of the senior Staff terminations that occurred this time last year.

The Town’s top earner and top bureaucrat, CAO Harry Schlange, pulled down $217,824.02 including benefits. He additionally received $306,188.21 in pay and benefits from Brampton in 2021, despite having “parted ways” way back in December 2018. If you aren’t keeping track that is $524,012.23 for 2021… not a bad haul!

While a dollar or $100,000 for that fact is not what it used to be even a year ago, those who “make the list” probably are not complaining.

All the details on the Town’s top earners and other public sector employees can be found in the full and searchable 2021 Provincial Sunshine List at the following link:

Grimsby Beach Study: November 4, 2021 Meeting Update

As discussed in a previous post, the Town had scheduled both an Open House meeting and Public Meeting for the Grimsby Beach Study for November 4, 2021.

In response to public concern, the Town has now made the November 4th meeting an Open House only event. The Public Meeting will now be held at a future date, to be determined.

If you have requested a delegation and have comments or concerns over the study, please attend the Zoom “Open House” as scheduled, as it is still an important step in this process. If there is a livestream available, we will rebroadcast it so those who wish to spectate, may day so.

Stay tuned for future updates on the Public Meeting.
