Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton is not shying away from the sorry state of politics at the Region, including the controversial “hiring” of Regional CAO Carmen D’Angelo.
Easton who was a member of the CAO selection committee is now speaking out and saying that her four years at the Region and the “backroom dealing” there has left her “disgusted”.

While the weather might have been cool this past Monday outside Town Hall, the temperature inside reached a boiling point at the Admin & Finance Committee meeting that afternoon.
For those who might not have caught last week’s article and editorial in News Now, there was a focus on the upcoming municipal election debate(s). The Grimsby Chamber of Commerce has tentatively scheduled a Mayoral debate on October 2nd from 7-8PM at the Casablanca Winery Inn. A “meet and greet” with all candidates from the other races, will bookend the night before and after the debate.
Now that the kids are T-1 day from being back in school, life for many will return to “normal”…. and Town Hall is no exception with the September meeting schedule starting to fill up. The first big meeting of the month is Tuesday’s Heritage Committee meeting.
We received a note from a reader early today asking that we check out the “Friendly By Nature” Facebook page because of a post they noticed there. Much to our surprise, we saw a sharing by FBN of an election post from the current Regional Councillor Tony Quirk.
A Better Niagara recently posted a chart detailing how members of Regional Council voted on key issues of integrity in recent years. Their methodology was to evaluate what type of vote represented the best of interest of citizens on that particular issue and from that, tally up.
Niagara This Week just published an interesting article on West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, arising out of discussions that took place at the recent AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) conference in Ottawa. The West Niagara delegation was quite strong in their demands for a WLMH re-built/new hospital.
Much like the weather over the past few days, it appears that it is getting hotter and hotter at Niagara Regional Council. After a marathon 5+ hour session last Thursday investigating the “hiring” of CAO Carmen D’Angelo, Regional Council resolved unanimously to ask the Ombudsman to step in.
With residents across Niagara becoming more aware in civics, calling for change and a sweeping out of Councils both at the municipal and regional levels, it comes as no surprise that there are five open mayoral seats in the Region. For some, it is often better to throw in the towel than suffer a defeat by the electorate at the ballot box.
