Although it’s the weekend… it’s cold out, so no better time than ever to dig into the agenda for Monday’s Council Meeting. A few interesting items, so without further ado, lets take a run through it.

While reviewing the Public Works Agenda and Minutes of last week’s meeting, we (not surprisingly) found that the our good ol’ friend the CoGen is once again showing signs of aging. For a project whose turbines were “purchased about 2010 and periodically in service since 2015” and breaking down constantly since, it definitely appears to be on it’s last legs.
November is just around the corner and so are a slew of Town meetings. With the next municipal election less than a year away, now is better time than ever to drop in to meetings and keep score on your elected officials.
The Region is hosting a drop-in, poster board public meeting at Town Hall tonight, October 23 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm to answer questions on the draft Secondary Plan and proposed development around the Casablanca GO station.
The Region is holding a Grimsby GO Transit Station Secondary Plan public information centre at Town Hall on October 23rd from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
This is your opportunity to let the Region and Town know what you think of the future plans for the Casablanca neighbourhood. This will be a drop-in event with poster boards.

For those who followed our last Committee of Adjustment posts on 52 Garden Drive at this link, you might recall that the Town appealed the COA’s decision to the OMB. A hearing on the matter was held on September 26, 2017 at Town Hall. Not surprisingly, the applicants were a “no show” but the hearing proceeded on accordingly.
Hot on the heels of our previous post on GEI’s advertorial that appeared recently, we received an e-mail-up from a reader who took part in the “Doors Open” tour of the Biodigester and has been following this project closely.
Needless to say, some of the points raised are very thought provoking, but as a disclaimer… these are the independent opinions of the reader and not this site.
Propaganda? Damage control?
To pay for an advertisement encouraging the public to share “feel good” comments with the local media about a very expensive and questionable piece of equipment (supported by the Town and taxpayers) … it seems like it.
While reading the Grimsby Lincoln News yesterday, we stumbled across an interesting article that discusses how the Town of Grimsby will try and pitch the town to Amazon as a prospective location for their new $5 Billion North American HQ. It is expected such a facility will create about 50,000 jobs.
It was a short Council meeting this past Monday, October 2nd, although one particular closed session item may warrant attention.
