The OLT has provided their written decision from the recent hearing on both the proposed new build and demolition of heritage buildings on the Cole’s property. The folks over at SaveMainStreet have written a thought-provoking post on the decision. Rather than re-invent the wheel, we suggest you read their post by clicking this link here.
As most readers are aware Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, passed away earlier today at the age of 96. The Queen was the longest-reigning and longest-living of all British monarchs.
While there are Official Portraits of the Queen, it thought it fitting to show a photo of the Queen and Prince Philip during their visit to Niagara Falls in the autumn of 1951. She was well-loved by not only those in the UK, but those in and out of the Commonwealth, including Niagara.
Our condolences go out to the Royal Family and all those here in Canada and around the world who admired her grace and charm. She is succeeded by her son, King Charles III. Vivat Rex.
We received a Facebook message yesterday from a resident asking about GCFRG candidate debates, well there are none. But after some asking around we did find out that a few local residents have organized Ward “Q&A” sessions.
The Town recently published notice of an “open house” meeting for the lands known as 502 Winston Road (aka “321 Hunter Road”). The meeting will focus on the applicant’s request to have the Official Plan amended to re-designate the land, which is in the Green Belt, from ” Specialty Crop Area – Tender Fruit and Grape Lands” to just “Rural”.
As an astute GCFRG reader, you may have noticed that the word “Growth” has been dropped from our banner and replaced by “Governance”. With the municipal election at our doorstep, as well as candidates, it is important to shift a large amount of focus to ensuring the community gets information to make informed decisions and thus gets the best representation at Town Hall.
If you didn’t catch the Public Notice in the local papers, you might have missed a notice from the Region regarding a Regional Official Plan Amendment (ROPA) application for the lands known as 502 Winston Road. The purpose of the application is to “refine the agricultural significance of the property from Unique Agricultural Area to Rural designation”. The lands are currently “Specialty Crop – Tender Fruit & Grape Lands” under the Greenbelt plan. But why re-designate you ask?
Nominations for October 24’s municipal election officially closed at 2PM today at Town Hall. By the way the list grew, it certainly looks like the Chief Election Official at the Town certainly had their work cut out for them today. Here is a list of candidates for Council and Regional Council according to Town’s site:
The Town will be hosting an “Open House” meeting for a development proposal of 116 stacked townhouses at 37 Bartlett Avenue on Monday July 18th, 2022 @ 6PM at Town Hall. The applicants, 2588732 Ontario Ltd., as part of their application are asking for Official Plan and Zoning By-law amendments to permit their proposal.
A late addition to Monday night’s Committee of the Whole agenda was an investigative report from the Town’s Integrity Commissioner, Michael Maynard on a Councillor’s participation in the event dubbed by some as the “Ottawa Convoy” or the “Freedom Convoy”.
